id: 20
Subject: Commendatory Rally for Health and Hygiene Volunteer Achievements, 2009
Content: To express gratitude to the Health and Hygiene Volunteers who dedicated their time serving the public, the Miaoli Public Health Bureau held the “Commendatory Rally for Health and Hygiene Volunteer Achievements, 2009” in the International Conference Room of Miaoli Hospital at 10 am on the 27th of this month. Eighty-four volunteers and twelve family volunteers were awarded for their achievements. In the rally, volunteer teams from communities and medical institutions presented brilliant performances, rewarding themselves for their hard work and exchanging what they gained from the experiences, in the hope of building up Miaoli as a better and prettier health town.

The Health and Hygiene volunteers in Miaoli County totaled 1,087 persons in 27 teams, according to Deputy Mayor Lin Jiouxiang, who held the post to award the winners in the Commendatory Rally. These volunteers sacrificed their holidays or family time in the Public Health Bureau, medical institutions, community health promotion centers or private organizations like Red Cross to help out with miscellaneous chores and tasks, said Lin. They dedicated their time and energy to help people, just like kind-hearted angels. Therefore, on behalf of County Mayor Liu Zhenghong, he would like to convey sincere gratitude to every volunteer.

Besides measuring blood pressure and pushing patients’ beds, the volunteers actually contributed profoundly in hygiene education and disease prevention, said Lin. Under the effect of global warming in particular, various epidemics have appeared. It was fortunate to have the devoted volunteers so that infections and hazardous foods got controlled. Other promotion events including tobacco control, community construction, Life-Saving and Fall Prevention, Healthy 579, etc were accomplished smoothly with volunteers’ assistance.

The awarded volunteers were among the most devoted, such as the Golden Quality Award receiver Mr. Xu Yongtai, who had totaled 1,020 hours this year since he became a volunteer, averaging more than 1 hour of service per day. One of the Family Golden Award receivers, mother and daughter Ou Shuzhen and Yu Jiahua, dedicated themselves in the Tongxili Community Health Promotion Center in Tongxiao Township. They had accumulated 924 hours this year since they joined volunteer works. Their endeavor was acknowledged by the local population.

Service hours were counted from Oct. 1, 2008 to Sept. 31, 2009.
